French Fries (Cactus Club Cafe vs et al)

I never really gave this food product much thought. On the 21st of Feb. I had fries with my meal (at CC) and today, my co-worker wanted to go and watch the Canada vs Russian hockey game. Since we were leaving quite late and didn't think a good seat would be available at Cactus Club Cafe. We opted to go to a Bar and Grill nearby and got alright seats to catch the Canadians lose to the Russians.

I had a vegetarian wrap with fries and my co-worker had a steak sandwich (medium done) with fries. The fries was just horrid. Wish there was a next time this year to catch a Canadian hockey game at the Olympics. The fries at Cactus Club Cafe did not give me heart burn. I'm very surprised that other kitchens can messed up a simple dish.

CC does offer salads in place of fries. If you are watching the waist line.

Broadway and Ash Location

My wife (Linda) and I first met up with the waitress and a guy shadowing her. He introduced himself as the Marketing Manager of Cactus Club Cafe and Steve was his name. Steve wanted to know if we were regulars and after finding out that we were. He asked why are we are regulars. We both responded "The food!".

Steve explained that Cactus Club Cafe at this location is the head office and the test kitchen. What it means is this menu at this particular location will more likely to change as they test out new products, prior to unleashing to other Cactus Club Cafe locations. Tonight we have also met up with the General Manager of night shift Jordan.

Linda and I started out with calamari. Which was easily chewed and flavourful and came with a nice dip (I really wanted to lick the dish clean). For drinks I had the Longboard Lager and a coke for my wife. My lager went down pretty smooth and was a light amber colour.

Main course:

Chicken Pesto Quesadilla. Which had cranberries and another nice dipping sauce (it was mouth watering) Had an option of fries or salad. I opted for the fries. Linda had chicken teriyaki sandwich.

The whole bill came to $45.00 including tip.

Yaletown location Cactus Club Cafe

Just came back from a meeting with a supplier (Mike) from Toronto and took him to the Yaletown location. We got there around 20 minutes after 12. and were informed of a 20 minute wait. So we asked to be seated at the bar and wait for a booth. Mike was commenting on how good looking the waitresses and bartender were. My co-worker and myself informed him that the Yaletown location is the place to be on a Friday/Saturday night. It is when some of the customers are better looking then the workers.

We all had the 7 ounce steak with Sleemans Cream Ale. But, Mike had a Granville Pale Ale. He wanted to try beers found only in Vancouver. Cactus Club Cafe has some beers brewed for only them. Like Udder Ale and Ugly Ale.

Cactus Club Cafe is not only a place for the view, but it is also has a good menu to choose from and is of good quality. It shows that even females still go to this place.

Broadway and Ash Location

This location our office goes to quite often.

There parking in the back (pay parking) and on the side roads. Once you get in there the bar lounge to the left which has all the TV's tuned to sports channels. There is plenty of seating to the left and on the patio in the front and back. If the weather is chilly Cactus has heated lamps and blankets available (on the patio).

Dishes I normally have are Cajun Chicken burger, Salads are like meals, Cajun chicken fajita.

Washrooms you have to go downstairs. Last time I was there, they had couch next to a faux fire place. Don't know why!.

Locations

There are four locations within Vancouver:

Broadway and Ash, Broadway and Granville, Robson Street, Yaletown.

During the summer time my co-worker and myself tries to get the patio on Robson and sit there for like three to four hours.

There are also locations at West Vancouver, North Vancouver, Coquitlam, Delta, Richmond.

Outside of the Lower Mainland:

Victoria, Kelowna, Nanaimo and in Calgary, Alberta.

Will try to get some photo's posted in the near future.

Work

At work we do like going to Cactus Club Cafe. We all call it CC for short. Quite funny that the department I'm in is also called Customer Communications (CC). And when the Manager from Calgary comes over we all say we want to be the manager of CC. Then we tell him Cactus Club of course! He just smiles.

Cactus Club - Broadway and Granville location.

Transferred this post from my other blog.

Just ate at the above location, just after the Canucks lost to the Wings (Jan. 26, 2006)

My wife and I were seated at the back of the restaurant where it is like an atrium. We had a view of a large apartment building. Every now and then you see people outside running back and forth trying to dodge the rain. There is four TV's on one wall (all tuned to sports channels) and underneath the TV's is four fire places (gas fire). Next to our table there is a fountain with red eye gargoyles holding up the fountain on their backs. With all Cactus Club's there is paintings around with little brass plate underneath them. The painting near us was titled Male model for a price of $400,000. Don't think the painting is real.

I had the Cajun Chicken Fajita with guacamole. For a starter we had calamari with tzatziki. I had better calamari and worst. Guess I'm saying it was alright. My wife had a vegetarian pasta and was a rebel and added chicken. All the food came in nice and hot. The service was very prompt and the waitress kept on checking on all of her tables.

I've been to most of Cactus Clubs in the Lower mainland and will keep on going to them.

Cactus Club Cafe in general
